My Present 04:58
My Present by Cody Weathers You've got my present under ribbon and bow You won't divulge it, but I think that I know I heard a rumor --I hope that it's true Please let my present be you You try to hide it, but I look high and low Even the places that you think I don't know I try to shake it --but I can't get a clue Please let my present be you (Guitar) I heard from Laura; Laura leaks but don't lie Says I've beguiled you, though she couldn't say why We've had our chances, but they've all gone askew Please let my present be you (Scat) It's cold at Christmas, man it's crisp in this town My heart's committed, still it pounds and it pounds No kiss is riskless --no kiss just a kiss Please let my present be this bliss You've got my present under ribbon and bow You won't divulge it, but I think that I know I heard a rumor --I hope that it's true Please let my present be you Fade: The only gift we give worth giving The only thing that keeps me warm is love, love, love

Christmas Blue by Cody Weathers Holidays bring familiar gloom I'm a Scrooge And I spend each Christmas blue Spend each Christmas blue But then I met you Only one thing is on my list I'm the Grinch Gonna steal your Christmas kiss From off your Whoville lips And you can't resist Stockings hung by a dancing fire I'm a coal But I'll warm your heart's desire Warm your heart's desire If you let me try All the ghosts sing the same old tune 'Tis the season you give the best of you Love that's pure and true That's what I wrapped you

about

Rhythmic, bluesy, atmospheric blend of original holiday tunes and new arrangements of classic Christmas favorites from Portland's premiere original scat-rock ensemble.

This album is the culmination of a decade's worth of annual Christmas cookies recorded by Cody Weathers and the Men Your Mama Warned You About. The band normally plays 100% original material, drawn from an extensive catalog of over 400 songs, and takes pride in "playing rock with a jazz mentality," eagerly seeking to reinvent their songs subtly or radically with each new performance. But Christmas coming but once a year, they do make this one exception to show their interpretive skills in offering a fresh arrangement of a holiday classic for their most ardent supporters each year. When songwriter Cody Weathers crafted his first holiday original in 2017 ("Christmas Blue") followed by another in 2019 ("My Present"), it felt like it was finally time to put a bow on their efforts and get this project in some stockings. We hope you enjoy and tune in for more cookies in years to come!
